Description
The Megger 550005B is a single-phase transformer turns ratio (TTR) test set powered by a hand crank, so it needs no mains supply in the field. It measures the turns ratio and excitation current of power, potential and current transformer windings, presenting results on three separate analog meters. Deviations reveal shorted turns, open windings, wrong connections, internal faults and tap changer problems. Utility crews, substation maintenance teams and transformer repair shops use it for acceptance and routine testing.
Key features
- Turns ratio measurement from 0 to 129.999:1
- Excitation current measurement from 0 to 1 A
- Hand-crank generator, no external power needed
- Three separate analog meter displays
- Detects shorted turns, opens, incorrect connections and tap changer defects
Typical applications
- Acceptance testing of distribution and power transformers
- Routine substation maintenance
- Verifying tap changer positions
- Checking potential and current transformer ratios
